We are very pleased to be able to offer you some references from our puppy families. Our puppy families are very important to us.  We are very happy some of them have agreed to write up a reference to be shared with future puppy families.  We hope this will give you a bit more information about us and our puppies.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

If already have a Selah puppy, we would love to hear from you and add you to the list of references.

                                    Mazey (back)   Mia (front)                                        Flynn

I've known Lisa/Selah since Summer of 2012. I've grown up having dogs and when it came time to get a dog of my own I settled on a Havanese as the breed for me. I spent a lot of time looking at breeders in Michigan before deciding on Lisa. I approached Lisa after she had just had two litters about getting on a waiting list for her next one. After the application and interview process I felt confident that Lisa would find me a dog that matched the temperament I wanted and my lifestyle. As luck would have it, she had kept three dogs from the litters she had just had to pick which dogs would best grow her show and breeding program. One of the three did not have the right temperament for a show dog, but was perfect for me. Mia is almost five years old, in very good health. She is intelligent and was quite easy to train.

I had always planned on having two dogs. When Mia seemed to miss having dogs her own size to play with (at the time I was living with my parents and she spent ample time with their two 40-50 lb Portugese Water Dogs), I moved up my time table to get a second dog. My experience with Selah was so good, I didn't even think about looking elsewhere. I thought I knew the exact personalty and temperament I wanted--another puppy just like my Mia. When I was talking to Lisa about it, she suggested that I shift it a little bit. Mia is soft-hearted, cuddly, loving and not very high energy dog. We go on our daily walks and play in the evening and she is content to hang out with us--which is just what I wanted. On flip side she can sometimes be a bit timid and soft in situations she's not comfortable with--not in a "I'm scared" way, but rather "I'm not so sure about this, let's stick by mom" kind of way (usually involving dogs that are larger than her or large crowds). Lisa suggested I look for a dog that fits a similar mold, but compliments Mia by being a bit more outgoing. Lisa's instincts when it comes to her puppies' personalities and the fit with their families are spot on. Mazey turned four a a couple months ago. She too is very healthy, well-adjusted and loved. Both of them are great with kids and Mazey really has helped bolster Mia in the social settings she was wary of so now they're both really comfortable in most social settings. They're fantastic with children of all ages--Lisa had started the socialization process when they were still young and I deliberately continued to socialize them with a wide range of people, ages and settings together and by themselves.

I have been completely satisfied with all my interactions with Lisa. She checks in to see how they're doing periodically and if I ever have a question or would like her opinion on something, she's always prompt with a reply and insights.

My mom actually loved my girls so much that when I moved out of their house, she got her own Havanese from Lisa. Flynn is everything my girls are, and when our vet did his well puppy exam he said he was very impressed with all three of our dogs, that they all had great bone structure, temperament and health and that our breeder must be good to produce three dogs with such consistently high standards.

I feel completely comfortable recommending Lisa to you and any one else. I truly believe she is a person of integrity who genuinely cares about her puppies. She's picky about the homes her dogs go to and really matches puppies with families. I believe the picking process is fairly straight forward. If I'm remembering correctly, once the dogs get old enough that their personalities become more developed and apparent, she'll contact puppy buyers to discuss any gender, coloring and personality preferences and make recommendations based on the puppies she has. She may also recommend waiting until the next litter. I have to tell you, if she recommends waiting, I would. My parents had a bad experience with another breeder who told bold face lies about the personality of a dog because they knew it was what my parents wanted to hear. The dog in question is still a member of the family and is loved (on most days) but it has not been easy. Lisa is not like that.

This is all probably more information and pictures than you wanted, but what can I say, I love my dogs, and by extension Lisa.

                                                                    Luka                                        Rico

I hope this isn't too long, there is just so much I want to share! :)

We decided to get our first havanese (as first time dog owners) from Lisa at Selah Havanese because I could tell that she was truly invested in the health and wellbeing of her dogs and the breed as a whole. It was important to me to find a breeder who performs health testing even though we were only looking for a pet because I wanted to know that I was getting a companion who would have the best chance at a long healthy life. Lisa was incredibly helpful during the process of preparing us for our first puppy (what supplies to have, training questions, grooming advice, etc.), and I loved the puppy pictures and updates while we waited. As soon as we met Rico, we were in love! He was every bit the spunky, lovable puppy we had been searching for. He was already pad trained when we brought him home and he learned everything else very quickly, he is one smart pup! A little less than 2 years later we had moved to Nebraska but we were ready to add another havanese to our family. I reached out to Lisa once again in the hopes of finding a suitable companion for us and Rico. We are now blessed by the daily joy of seeing Rico and his brother Luka running their zoomies together in the yard and twice as many warm pup snuggles on the couch. These dogs are loyal, affectionate, playful, and so sweet, I can't imagine our lives without them!

                                               Mandy                                                            Sadie

When you receive a beautiful fur baby from Selah Havanese you become part of the family.

Lisa has a wealth of knowledge and has been there for us any time we have had a question or concern about our girls.

Our vet always comments how beautiful Mandy and Sadie are.

We are blessed to have found Lisa.

                                                                                   Wally

Hi Lisa - here's a blurb from us for your blog.  :)

Wally is like a little joy-bomb from God - everyone loves him, he's happy & well-balanced, and his enthusiasm (especially when we arrive him!) is heart warming.  We're thankful for his good start in life as a little puppy, as well as for the ongoing support to us whenever we have a question. We're very happy to be part of the Selah family!

                                                                               Putter

We have been so pleased with our Havanese puppy, Putter. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. Lisa was a joy to work with and her love for the breed is apparent in the quality of dogs she raises.  Thank you Lisa for your dedication to this outstanding breed. It is so nice to have a tail wagging round our home again!

All our best,
Jerry, Mary, Alice, JP, Noah and Jude
