Welcome to the Selah Puppy Nursery.
Havanese Puppies!!  We have litters planned for spring of 2012

Please contact us if you would like to be considered for a puppy from one of our planned litters.  All our puppies come with a lifetime buy back guarantee if for any reason you cannot/do not wish to keep your puppy, no questions asked.  Because each puppy we raise becomes a piece of our heart, we are devoted to finding excellent forever homes for them and are committed to them for their entire lives.

All puppies are from health tested parents, are born and raised in our home right in the midst of our family life. They receive early neurological stimulation using the Super Dog program, are well socialized with everyone from children to the elderly, are started on potty training and basic obedience, crate trained and travel friendly, and are taught to settle and submit even when they don't want to (which is very important for further training).

Your puppy comes with a full vet exam, up to date on vaccines and de-worming, microchip, BAER hearing test, complete records for your vet, a puppy book which includes parent information, pedigree, health documents, growth chart of your puppy, pictures of parents and your puppy, breed standard and info, training info, grooming tips and fun puppy stuff.  Your puppy also comes with a 'love' blanket that smells like mama and littermates and a toy.  As always they are pre-spoiled with lots of love and are certain to be little snuggle bugs.

We do not ship puppies.  You will need to come pick your puppy up at our home.  We think it is important for you to meet your puppies parents and see where they have been raised.  Your puppy can easily fly home with you in a soft-sided carrier under your seat.  We will also consider making arrangements to deliver your puppy under certain circumstances if possible.

Because we take great care in preparing your new best friend we want to get to know our puppy buyers.  New homes are carefully selected and puppies are placed with close attention to the needs and desires of the family and the unique and special temperament of the puppy.

Things your puppy will need....

Crate: Your puppy will need a crate. This will be his safe place. It will also help you in training your puppy. You may decide you would like to have a larger metal crate 24L x 16 W x 21 H for at home and a smaller plastic crate for travel, 22 L x 13 W x 16 H.  You may also choose to travel with a soft-sided 'Sherpa' style bag. These look a bit like a duffel bag. They are small and convenient, but do not leave your puppy alone in one, they can easily scratch their way out.

X-pen: These come in plastic or metal varieties. They can be purchased at a pet store or in the baby department. They allow your puppy to get exercise while you are away or at home but unable to have direct supervision of your puppy. They can also be used outdoors to contain your puppy to keep him safe while you are busy doing other things. They are NOT to be used as an outdoor confinement for your puppy. Havanese are house dogs and must live in the house with you!!

Comb: You will need a metal fine/medium tooth comb for grooming your puppy. The comb is the easiest way to make certain you have gotten all tangles out of his coat.

Brush: Wooden bristle oblong Chris Christensen brush. It is good for smoothing the coat, finish brushing or daily brushing, but can also miss tangles so should not be used as the sole grooming tool. This is my favorite brush.

Spray bottle: Fill with 1 part conditioner and 5 parts water. Spritz on the coat whenever you are going to comb or brush your puppy. This will help keep the coat from breaking.

Collar/Leash: Your puppy will need a collar and leash for whenever you take him out. 1/2" width works well, pick a very soft nylon so it will tangle the coat less. A collar that measures 10" and can be adjusted smaller will fit for the life of your puppy. A 4' or 6' lead will work best. Retractable leads are not recommended. They do not encourage proper leash training nor are they especially safe for puppy or human in congested areas.  Another option than a collar is to get a soft harness.  This will prevent your puppy from pulling too hard and damaging his esophagus, but you will need to brush out his coat after wearing it to avoid tangles.

Food dish: Stainless steel dishes are the best as they are not porous and are cleaned easily.

Water bottle: Our dogs drink from a 'rabbit' style water bottle. We place one on the crate and another on the x-pen. We attach a small bowl to the side of the crate just in case the bottle drips, but the Lix-it variety are drip proof so won't need the bowl underneath. Dogs easily learn to drink from a bottle. Drinking from a bottle helps keep a white face white and also helps keep floors dry. Our favorite brand is Lix-it.

Food: We feed and recommend Purina Pro-Plan Selects Turkey and Barley Puppy.  Your puppy will also have been started on NuVet vitamins, and we recommend you purchase these before bringing your puppy home.   We give our dogs NuVet vitamins and recommend our puppies continue to receive them.  All our dogs also get a half egg yolk per day. This can be prepared fresh (I fry ours, cut and freeze then give half daily). Powdered egg yolk can also be given http://www.eggstore.com/poweggyol.html. This stores easily and is easy to give while traveling. You can also add a bit of water and microwave to make scrambled egg yolk. This will help their bones, eyes and coat. Consider which method best works for your lifestyle and be prepared before your puppy comes home. Order the powder in advance, it will take about a week to get in the mail. I have found the powder is the easiest method, just put a teaspoon on top of the kibble each morning. Your puppy will be used to getting egg yolk powder on his kibble, this is the method I raise the pups on.

Bedding: You can use towels, blankets, or buy bedding designed for dog crates. Havanese also like to curl up in a soft donut bed.

Potty pads: Your puppy will be trained to use puppy potty pads. They can either continue using these in a designated area of your home or you can transition them to outdoor pottying.

Toys: Stuffed toys and chew toys/bones. Make certain to give your puppy plenty that is acceptable for him to play and chew on. This will help keep your new puppy out of mischief.

Puppy-proof: Make certain to puppy proof your home BEFORE your puppy comes home. Remove electrical cords, hazardous plants, cleaning supplies, plastic bags, potpourri, grapes/raisins, chocolate, and coffee grounds from your puppies reach.
